“I
don’t know…seize the moment…be a man…you work it out!” Words of wisdom from the mighty BEN HALL (one of the stars
of SMOKEY BACON & SMOKEY BACON 2), who is currently sitting next to me, looking at German Nazi propaganda, concealing
pent up frustration at my persisting incompetence and loud nature. His words take me back to many months ago, when Liam Blackmore
Abraham and myself, Andrew F. Moncrieff (although I achieved notoriety under the assumed name of ‘Crieff’), were
sitting somewhere, at some indeterminate point in time and no doubt smoking something. ‘Now Jeff,’ I’m sure
you’re all saying, ‘If you can’t even work out when and where it was, why the Hell should I care what you
and your gay love chum were doing?’. Well, my hearties, I will tell you – Because that was the Earth shattering
moment we realised we were on the same wave length. That we both wanted to make films. That we liked the same kinds of films.
We get along well. I have a camera. I can write dialogue. Liam is infinitely creative and visually gifted (as an artist, not
as a vision to look at…well, not to me anyways...). I know
we’ll look back to that shining moment for years to come and we’ll look to all the naysayers, all our detractors
over the years and say “YES, that is our moment. That’s when the world changed. That’s when History was
never the same. That is when our parasitic bacterial species’ entire pathetic conception of ‘Life, the Universe
and Everything’ was blown all out of whack, bitch-slapped and gang-raped by an army of realist celluloid idealists,
anarchistic film geeks and street-level artists, poised and eager to get their teeth into the world we grew up in and change
it, led by the wonderful Liam and Crieff.” Well, that’s what I’d say. Liam usually doesn’t hold
a grudge and if he did, he’d probably just dismiss the cynics with a flip of the bird and tossing a quick “Fuck
y’all” aside. We’re waiting for our chance, just like Eminem in 8 Mile.
Then we’ll have another bright, shiny, perfect moment to add to our collection. You can help. Yes, you can help. You
can tell your grandchildren; “I was there, when they were doing stuff that changed things. I did this thing that helped
with that and it was amazing.” Wouldn’t that be sweet? The great prophet Dave Mustaine once remarked,
"If there's a new way, I'll be the first in line...but it better work this time...". Well, we can answer him now in 2005 what
in 1986 must have seemed like a brain teaser. YES DAVE, THERE IS A NEW WAY! IT WORKS! YOU
ARE THERE IN THE BEGINNING! YOU CAN BE PART OF THE NEW WAY OF INDEPENDENT CINEMA!
Hugs and kisses, The Late Andrew F. Moncrieff/ “Jefferson” R.I.P. (Spelling corrections by
